Meet Chef Derek

Born in Southern California, Chef Derek Owens, also known as “D-Train,” was raised in household that loved cooking Creole and Southern Comfort Food. He developed his passion through watching and learning from his parents, as well as the huge inspiration of his Great Grandmother being a Chef/Owner of a Southern Comfort style restaurant. He attended the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in Saint Helena, CA where he studied Culinary Arts. Building his resume in the Napa Valley, Chef Derek has worked in different atmospheres from Michelin starred restaurants, upscale wineries, hotels and resorts, and as a Private Chef Consultant. Derek resides in Napa, CA and is an avid pickleball player. He enjoys wine tasting, eating at new restaurants with friends and family and, when he has time, he enjoys watching Japanese Anime. Derek is excited to bring a delicious and fresh take on the food scene of Calistoga and is proud to be the new Chef De Cuisine at Picayune Cellars!
