About this experience

Diné weaver Venancio Aragon is driven to revive and preserve Diné weaving amid modern challenges and cultural appropriation.

Venancio is a Navajo textile weaver that combines the ancient techniques of his  ancestors with polychromatic design. He specializes in rare and uncommon techniques including various twills, two-faced, tufting and hybrids. His signature development is the Expanded Rainbow Aesthetic. Argon's weaving utilizes over 250 colors of both synthetically and naturally dyed wool yarns. The textiles are experimental and often deal with the subject of water and meteorological phenomenon.

Inspired by an interest in human history via material culture, Aragon pursued degrees in cultural anthropology and Native American studies. For a time, he worked as an interpretive ranger at the National Park Service, helping visitors form their own connections to parks and monuments. Aragon’s intense curiosity for archaeology, anthropology, and art led him on a passage researching and reviving fragments of the Diné weaving repertoire.

We invite you to meet Venancio, and learn more about his art, his culture and his passion to inspire and preserve Diné weaving.

We will have a complimentary tasting of our Origin Chardonnay. This is a very personal bottling by our winemaker Claire Weinkauf, as the vineyard has some very strong ties to her start here in California. Venancio created a weaving titled Spider Woman's Cross, which has become the label for our Russian River Chardonnay, The Origin.

Light bites will be provided, wines by the glass will be available for purchase.
