About the Artist: Edward S. Curtis

Edward Sheriff Curtis was an American photographer and ethnologist whose work focused on the American West and Native American people.  In the later part of his life he set out to document, through photos and interviews, Native Americans from every tribe west of the Mississippi River.  He spent 30 years developing personal relationships, and learning the histories and traditions of more than eighty tribes.
