Red Mesa area weaving, circa 1915 to 1925.
It's a very well done weaving, extremely balanced and symmetrical. The small hourglass like images are butterflies that the Navajos would weave into the rugs as a symbol of peace. Occasionally they would do this during World War I or World War II to hope for peace. The white is a natural wool from their sheep, and the gray brown color is hand carded from white wool in one hand and dark brown in the other. Time consuming to create. The red dyes are synthetic or aniline.
Great Condition; SOLD AS IS
