The horned toad or Cheii in Navajo lore is the grandfather spirit who protects the people and leads them safely. Philander created this wonderful toad out of gleaming solid 18 Karat gold. The figure was cast first separately and overlaid on the heavy tufa cast shank. A mountain top and lightning design was carved to symbolize the horned toad leading the people through the storm to higher places. Atop the toad Phil set a rare and exceptional gem grade lone mountain turquoise. 

Petroglyphs adorned the interior of the cuff for your own secret and to complete this masterpiece.
